With zero published books as of yet, ten sample stories, and 300 followers on Twitter, one would think it wouldn’t be a big deal, but I’m trying to build a brand.
I posted this as a graphic on Twitter, but I wanted to expand since, well, I have a blog!
As you may have noticed, my timeline has essentially shifted from tweeting about my writing, to tweeting and RTing porn. This is because I’m trying to expand my audience beyond just readers of erotica – I’m trying to get members of the porn industry to see my writing, but I’m also unfiltered and have no desire to water down anything I tweet.
As a result, I now have a second account: @xhfiles Follow that account if you want to stay updated on my writing (both free and sales), but aren’t interested in being inunudated with any X-rated tweets. The avatar will continue to be the pentacle I use on @xaverharrington until I can make a different graphic.
Also, be on the lookout for Twitter handles for my upcoming books. I will announce them on @xhfiles and will blogging more aobut them on my blog at xhfiles.wordpress.com. Any questions, feel free to DM on here.
Last count was 300 followers on @xaverharrington, and I thank you all for following. Without your support, I wouldn’t be a writer.
I was actually surprised that the username @xhfiles was available, but when I noticed it, I took it. Hopefully, once I sell some books, or maybe some other merchandise down the road, maybe Twitter will verify me.
For what it’s worth, I have yet to get a single complaint about the change on my Twitter feed under @xaverharrington, but I also know when I first started the account, 90% of my tweets being X-rated was not where I intended to go, but as I mentioned above, I want to expand my audience. I will still be publishing links to free and sale work on both names, but @xhfiles will be used only for marketing my work, while @xaverharrington will be my unfiltered mind and mouth unleashed for the XXX world.
If you interact with me on FB, I already do something similar. I created a group where people can be their unfiltered and kinky selves. The mistake I made was bringing that to my main timeline. I’ve been ‘jailed’ twice because those posts were reported by people most likely offended by it. I’ve heard of authors being suspended four and five times without being banned, I don’t want to take anymore chances. Once I attain my freedom, my timeline will be more for promoting work and interacting with fellow authors and readers. If you want the hardcore stuff, I’m on Pinterest and Tumblr.
If you have any good marketing ideas, feel free to reach out – I’m sure I could use the advice.
Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.
